Robert Louis Stevenson was a Scottish

writer, born in Edinburgh in 1850. One

summer in 1881, he drew a map of an

island with his stepson. The map gave

him an idea for a story. In 1883 it

became the book Treasure Island, about

a boy named Jim Hawkins who goes to sea

to find buried gold.
