December 21, 1913, in a newspaper

called the New York World. It was made

by Arthur Wynne, a journalist who was

born in Liverpool, England. His puzzle

was shaped like a diamond, and he

called it a word cross. Soon the name

changed to crossword, and today people

solve crosswords all over the world!
