Alexander Fleming was a Scottish doctor
who studied germs in London. In
September 1928, he came back from a
holiday and looked at some old dishes
in his lab. On one dish, a blue green
mould had grown, and the germs around
it had died! The mould made something
that he named penicillin. Later, other
scientists turned it into a medicine.
It has saved millions of lives.
