Ibn Sina was born near Bukhara in about

980. By the age of 10, he knew the

whole Quran by heart! He loved to

learn, and as a young man he became a

doctor. His great book, the Canon of

Medicine, has 5 parts. It was so useful

that doctors in Europe studied it for

hundreds of years. In the West, people

call him Avicenna.
