Once, on a journey, some companions of

the Prophet, peace be upon him, saw a

small bird with two chicks. They took

the chicks away. The mother bird came

and flew around them, beating her

wings. When the Prophet came, he saw

this and said: Who has upset this bird

by taking her young? Give them back to

her. He taught people to be kind to

animals too. (Abu Dawud)
