In 1956, a writer named Michael Bond
saw a lonely toy bear on a shop shelf
in London and bought it for his wife.
He named it after Paddington station,
which was near his home. Soon he began
to write stories about a little bear
from Peru who arrives at the station
with a label: "Please look after this
bear. Thank you." The first book came
out in 1958. Paddington loves marmalade
sandwiches!
